Barbados sports facilities

Cricket
Facilities for cricket on Barbados are superb. There are many grounds dotted all over the island, each with their own unique charm.

The Banks ground on the outskirts of Bridgetown is set just in front of the famous Banks Beer Brewery.  With a superb pavilion, bar, pool table and comfortable seating with excellent views over the ground, this ground is one of the most popular with touring parties.

The ground of the Isolation Cavaliers is one of the most beautiful on the island, with a stunning backdrop of the trees and mountains of the central highlands.

The excellent wicket at the Dover Cricket Ground is located in St Lawrence Gap. The ground is floodlit so day/night games can be played there. A great location for socialising post cricket with the bars and restaurants of the Gap a stone’s throw away!

The Oran Bristol in Seightstown on the west coast is a hidden gem of a cricket ground, with fantastic views over the Caribbean Sea and a selection of delicious fish restaurants to unwind in after your game.

Cricket matches usually start after lunch to avoid the midday heat and refreshments are laid on for visiting teams.

Netball
The popularity of the sport in Barbados means that there are netball courts all across the island. Almost every community in every parish will have a court and all 22 secondary schools on the island have excellent facilities too.

The National Stadium on the outskirts of Bridgetown can be utilised by touring groups playing club teams.

Netball matches are played late in the afternoon or under flood lights in the evening. Games are followed by refreshments and, in most cases, singing and dancing with new found friends!

Hockey
The world class facilities at the Sir Garfield Sobers Complex near Bridgetown include a fabulous astro-turf hockey pitch that overlooks the Caribbean Sea.

There are also pitches at a number of schools and parishes throughout the island.

Football
A number of pitches in Barbados and an increasing number of teams emerging, means that the facilities for a football tour to Barbados are excellent.

Games are played later in the day, when the temperature starts to drop. Refreshments are provided during and after games.

Basketball
Barbados has produced some excellent basketball players, many of whom ply their trade in European pro teams.

It is a sport fast growing in popularity and this is reflected in the fact that there are courts everywhere in Barbados, including the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex. Community tournaments take place regularly across Barbados

Badminton, volleyball
Both can be played at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex and, of course, the white sanded beaches provide perfect courts for beach volleyball!
