Antigua sports

Cricket
Perhaps the only thing that Antiguans love more than their island is cricket. Their passion for the games runs as high, if not higher, than any other Caribbean island. There is usually a match taking place somewhere on the island - the beach, in villages and in the street. And at night time the play becomes talk. Cricket is, quite simply, lived and breathed on the island.

Antigua produced many fine players who have represented the West Indies, most notably Sir Vivian Richards, one of the greatest cricketers ever to have picked up a bat.

The Antiguan Recreation Ground is legendary in the Caribbean and played host to Brian Lara’s world record innings of 400 against England. Local, national and international fixtures are regularly played at this world famous venue; it provides a truly cultural experience.

Touring teams can play at both the Recreation Ground and the prestigious Stanford development near the airport, as well as other pitches across the island, all with their own unique charm. There are no easy games in Antigua - local players revel in the opportunity of facing teams from abroad! Touring groups keen to explore and island hop can also enjoy a game on the stunning island of Barbuda.

Netball
As netball is one of the most popular women’s sports in the Caribbean it is no surprise to learn that it has a big following in Antigua.

A perfect year-round climate and excellent venues around the island mean that the stage is set for a memorable netball tour in Antigua.

We will be able to pit you against the right standard of opposition, who will show you a huge amount of hospitality in every area except the pitch!

Golf
There are two contrasting18-hole golf courses in Antigua. The Cedar Valley Golf Club is famous for its panoramic views of the island’s coastline and is host to all the major tournaments on the island.

The Jolly Harbour course is set in tropical parkland amongst the Sherkely Mountains. With a constant cool breeze and lakes meandering through the course, this is a golfing day to remember.

We recommend taking in Antigua’s courses as part of a Caribbean golfing tour. For more information please contact Alpheus Sports, info@alpheussports.com
